About Me - Photography of Nature and Wildlife

"You don't take a photograph, you ask, quietly, to borrow it." - Unknown

My first camera was a Polaroid Instamatic, a gift from my Aunt and Uncle. This little Black and White box developed the pictures right in front of my eyes, and that 'magic' certainly piqued this young boy's curiosity. Through the years, I upgraded to 35mm and kept up with advancements, anxious to try the latest photo technologies. Digital brings back all that instant 'magic' and keeping up with the digital possibilities is all part of the fun.

Although not formally trained as a photographer, there is something to say for learning skills through trial and error. Along the way it sometimes felt like mostly errors. I am very lucky to have family and friends with similar interests. Sharing unexpected discoveries, triumphs and also the defeats, makes learning just part of the process and part of many good-natured conversations.

Photography has presented unique opportunities to meet some amazing and interesting fellow photographers who seem to always be willing to lend an ear, discuss an idea and pass on advice. It has only been recently that I have taken workshops to tweak my skills and meet even more like-mind people.

Nature and Wildlife have always been a passion, so for it to show up in my work is not an accident. My Mom taught me to see the beauty in the mountains and my Dad can take credit for my love of early morning walks in the bush or along a lake. For me, there is nothing better than a cool crisp morning at sunrise, wandering a hiking trail in a National Park, in a river valley, driving a back country road or just stepping into the possibilities outside the back door - it seems there is always something to see, and you can capture the moment if you just look for it.

Pleasure and pride come from being able to recognize those moments, find a creative angle and then share it with others. The smiles and exclamations when a great shot is appreciated makes me want to find the next one. The encouragement and enthusiasm of some dear friends were the impetuous that brought this website to fruition.

These images are a glimpse of the world through my eyes. I hope they give you as much pleasure as they do me...
